WHAT ARE THE POPPIES FOR?
I understand ,we must remember
all our soldiers that died in the wars
they gave their lives to protect us
in lands, far away from our shores
I know that thousands went away
to never be seen no more.
But Mummy, please can you tell me
What are The Poppies for?
On the spot where they gave
their lives, became graves
far away from their loved ones and kin,
in the mud, muck and mire
and enemy fire
in a battle that no one could win.
But where the fields and the sands
of those far away lands
drank the blood of our husbands and sons
The red poppies grew
and the doves of peace flew
taking place of the cannons and guns.
So, each year we remember
this time in November
all those that suffered in wars
though they're no longer here,
we still shed the tears
and wear the poppy because.
All the names on Memorials
in the towns they called home
Stand proud when we gather each year.
Wear your poppy with pride
for there's no need to hide
let it be, as in stone it is set......
TOGETHER--LEST WE FORGET!!!!
